May 22, 1930 – Philadelphia Shibe Park off Howard Ehmke – Over two rows of houses in right field – 550 feet.
In the first game of a doubleheader on May 21, Ruth drilled three home runs, with number two flying over a house across the street in right field. The next day, folks were still buzzing over that 505-footer, and wondering if it had been Babe’s longest in Philadelphia. Those conversations ended in the third inning of the first game of yet another twin-bill. Ruth again pounded the ball to right field, but, this time, the ball kept going past where the previous day’s shot had landed. It ultimately cleared two rows of houses along with the yards and alleyway between and struck a window on the east side of Opal Street. That 550-foot blast was the exclamation point to six home runs hit in the space of 28 hours.
