September 12, 1953 - New York Yankee Stadium - off Detroit's Billy Hoeft - line drive high into the far end of the upper deck in left - 515 feet - one of Mantle's hardest hit home runs - the ball landed in the 10th row just above and right of the last exit, crashing into a seat destroying it and rebounded onto the field - Casey Stengel stated the ball was still climbing when in smacked the grandstand and would have cleared the stadium if it were hit 25 feet to the right - Gil McDougald said the ball was hit harder than the Griffith homer in April.
