1942 World Series. October 4, 1942. World Series Game 4 Cardinals and Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Stan Musial is shown sliding into third base on Walker Cooper's single to center field in the fourth inning. Yankee third baseman Red Rolfe dropped the ball, Musial was safe and Walker Cooper advanced to second. St. Louis would go on to score six times in the inning on their way to a 9-6 win and go up 3 games to 1 in the series. The next day the Cards would close out the series with a 4-2 win. In Musial's first World Series appearance he would collect 4 hits, 3 singles and a double driving in 2 runs.
