June 23, 1957 - Mantle makes a leaping catch of a line-drive off the bat Chicago White Sox Larry Doby, robbing him of an extra base hit in the first inning of the first of twinbill against the White Sox. Hank Bauer backs up the play. The big showdown doubleheader between the top teams of the AL attracted 63,787 paid, baseball's largest crowd in two years. The Yanks and White Sox would split the doubleheader, Chicageo winning the nightcap to snap a Yankee 10-game winning streak and leaving the Yanks with a half game lead in the AL.

In the doubleheader, Mantle went 6 for 9, lifting his league leading BA to .392 and his league leading HR total to 21. Included in his hits is one of the longest homers in Yankee Stadium history. He would drive in 4 runs leaving him one behind league leader Roy Sievers, on pace for second straight triple crown season.

In the second game, Mick turns on a Dick Donovan fastball and drills a monster three run homer into the right-field upper deck. The ball dropped in the extreme corner of the upper deck in right where the grandstand meets the bullpen after clipping the facade, Mantle's 5th facade home run. The blast is estimated at 540 feet.
