Cardinal pitcher Bob Gibson strikes out Detroit's Norm Cash in the top of the 9th inning for a record-breaking 16th strikeout of the game. The strikeout came after Gibson gave up a leadoff single to Mickey Stanley. He then proceeded to strike out Al Kaline, Norm Cash and Willie Horton in succession for a record setting 17 strikeouts to end the game.
