Mantle & Baxter Springs Whiz Kids coach Barney Barnett at a benefit game at Miners Park in Joplin, Missouri. Barnett had set the game up after the Yankees 1952 season billed as the "Mickey Mantle All-Stars" vs. "The Cloyd Boyer All-Stars. The game drew over 5,000 fans. Barnett had a significant impact on Mantle's young career. Three weeks later Mantle was attending the funeral services for his long-time friend and coach.
